Ram Service Bulletin 18-018-13 REV. D for the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel (2024)

A few weeks ago, I took my 2013 Ram 3500 in to the local dealership to have a remote start installed and to investigate what might be causing some random check engine lights to come on. The light would appear for a couple days, then suddenly disappear. This issue was addressed by performing the following PCM Reflash for the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel. The following Rapid Response Transmittal (RRT)/Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for this reflash was released on November 13, 2013 and is quoted here for information purposes only.

**THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 13-082. ALL APPLICABLE SOLD AND UN-SOLD RRT VIN’s HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS ARE REIMBURSABLE WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF WARRANTY.**

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 18-018-13 REV. C, DATED OCTOBER 16, 2013 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. **THIS BULLETIN IS NOW BEING RELEASED AS A RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL =. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE: The wiTECH diagnostic application is the only method for flashing ECU’s. Help using the wiTECH diagnostic application for flashing an ECU is available by selecting “Help” then “Help Contents” at the top of the wiTECH diagnostic application window.

NOTE: You may erroneously receive an error message at the conclusion of the download stating the that the flash was not successful. If there is an error message after the flash has completed, first confirm that the DTC U1601 is not present and that the PIN has been updated. If so, start the engine to confirm the flash was successful. If DTC U1601 is present, OR the PIN did not update, OR the engine did not start, the flash may have been unsuccessful. Restart the flash update.

1. Flash reprogram the PCM. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the control modules is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the “HELP” tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then “HELP CONTENTS”. This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected. After PCM reprogramming has completed successfully, the following must be performed:

2. Power down the PCM (key off) after flash. Automatic Transmission equipped trucks must have key off for 10 minutes. Manual Transmission trucks must have key off for 75 seconds.

3. Perform a Quicklearn procedure on vehicles equipped with a 68RFE Automatic Transmission. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 08 – Electrical> 8E – Electronic Control Modules> MODULE, Transmission Control> Standard Procedure> Quicklearn.

4. Clear any DTC’s that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

5. Type the necessary information on the “Authorized Modification Label” and attach it near the VECI label.

6. Ensure S8 18-032-13 (or later bulletin) is also completed to update Doser Control Unit (DCU).

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

TIME ALLOWANCE:
1. 18-19-04-Q9 Module; Powertrain Control (PCM) Reprogram, Quicklearn Transmission (68RFE A/T only), (2 – Semi Skilled); 8 – Engine Performance; Amount: 0.5 Hrs.
2. 18-19-04-R9 Module; Powertrain Control (PCM) Reprogram, Quicklearn Transmission (AISIN A/T AND M/T), (2 – Semi Skilled); 8 – Engine Performance; Amount: 0.4 Hrs.

NOTE: The expected completion time for the flash download portion of this procedure is approximately 15 minutes. Actual reflash download times may be effected by vehicle connection and network capabilities.
